As educators we could send information to students via e-mail,we could use o-line testing, use powerpoint presentations to make delivery of instruction more meaningful and relevant.
I am a technology teacher and I have been using the technology from the beginning. The students are aware of the thrust to have all teachers use it now, and frankly they are amused and exasperated by it all. They actually laugh at some of what now happens in their classes as a result. I've heard of university students in 2009 who asked the lecturer to pause the powerpoint please and take the marker and go to the board and write and explain. And the whole class including the lecturer was pleased at the result.
There are two things I am concerned about - 1. equity - there is an assumption that all teenagers are technological junkies and that is simply NOT TRUE. Many do not even have ready access. 2. focus and objective - I watch a group of students do an inclass techy group activity and thoroughly enjoy it. They research the material and are given the links to all the contents. They watch the videos and listen to the famous voice 'explain' it. Then they are given the CSEC questions and they are unable to respond in the manner expected. The North american educational system is not as exam based as ours but both my and my students performance will be based on those grades reported in August each year. And I have a limited time to cover the syllabus. This laissez faire - let's spend an hour searching the net and watching videos on one topic which I would normally have covered in 15 mniutes - is not in coherence with the summative standards I am exptected to meet.
I have integrated Technology usage with my sixth form students. I have used emails to pass on notes and to vet their emails. I have shared different websites for them to go on read and then have discussions in class. I can remember one easter holiday, I was overseas and it was through email that my students and I kept intouch with their SBAs and when I returned they had them all printed and waiting to be collected.
Know I know how to create websites to placed work on there for my classes. I will make an effort to do this even after this elearning class.
We as teachers really need to embrace this and run with it just as our students are using the different technology daily. I say teachers join the club of technology usage in the classroom. Good-Luck!!
My knowldege has increase as how to use technology in the classroom.
There are many ways we can use technology in the classroom and even in their homes with our students. I have learnt that blogging can be used, I did not know about that before. Thinking back to my studies , I have used this method, but I did not know.
Webquest is another way and website for classes are just a few avenues to interest the students. With time we wil all be fully on board. Time does it.
I thought we answered this question over and over in the first 4 classes
